POST TENSIONING

World Quality in The Post-Tensioning Technology

POST TENSION CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY

Yapı Merkezi has been serving in post tension technology since 1988 with its group company Freysaş Which is established by Yapı Merkezi and Freyssinet partnership.

Post-tension system involves application of post-tensioning forces on high tensile steel. The material under stress forms a pressure in the concrete prior to the external loads through surface adherence and/or locking (anchorage) components at the ends.

There are two methods of post-tensioning:

1. Internal Post-tensioning:

Before casting the concrete, protective sheaths are installed on the job site. After casting the concrete, post tension cables are placed in the protective sheaths. When the concrete reaches some strength, these cables are stressed by tensile forces.

2. External Post-tensioning:

In this method, the sheaths and cables are placed outside the concrete.

Advantages

  • Makes construction of long span bridges and building methods possible.
  • Adds a touch of architectural esthetics, static flexibility and freedom to bridge construction projects.
  • Simplifies mould and scaffold systems and decreases construction time.
  • Decreases the size of construction components and results in more cost-effective projects.
  • Decreases the overall weight of the buildings and so acts as seismic restraint as well as being more cost-effective.

Applications

  • Long span bridges
  • Stadiums
  • Movie theaters and concert halls
  • Sport halls
  • Multi-story shopping centers and offices
  • Schools and hospitals
  • Residential buildings
  • Silos and cylindrical storage areas
  • Nuclear power plants
  • Shipyards
  • Offshore oil platforms
  • Various strategic and industrial facilities
